The Attorney-General and Ministry of Justice holds a training on corruption, environmental and Rule of Law Issues

Ho, 28th September 2020 – The four-day workshop is spearheaded by the Attoney-General and Ministry of Justice, with the support of the European Union through its Accountability Rule of law and Anti-corruption Programme (ARAP), implemented by the Spanish Public Foundation FIIAPP.

The event was attended by Mrs. Yvonne Attakora-Obuobisah, Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) and Mrs. Ana Sanchez, ARAP Team Leader, and 90 attorneys from across Ghana.

The aim of the workshop was to train attorneys in key areas in relation to prosecuting corruption, environmental crime, cyber-crime and crypto currency -related offences. The current situation with the COVID-19 pandemic has led to an increase in crimes involving dishonesty which includes procurement and corruption offences.  The commission of these crimes has also seen a change in the modus operandi and level of complexity. Thus, the Public Prosecution section of the office of the Attorney-General prepares itself adequately to deal with these emerging issues in order to curb same and serve justice to victims as the situation may be.

In a notice dated 20th August, 2019 to Rural/Community Banks and Microfinance Institutions, the Bank of Ghana has directed all institutions to meet their minimum capital requirements of One Million Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,000,000) for rural/community banks and Two Million Ghana Cedis (GH¢2,000,000) for Microfinance Institution by February, 2020. Failure to comply by the said date shall merit sanctions as provided for in the Banks and Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions Act, 2016 (Act 930) and Non-Bank Financial Institutions Act, 2008 (Act 774)
