The Creative Arts Industry Bill has been passed into law.
The Creative Arts Law is a legal and institutional framework to promote the Creative Arts industry and be the basis of establishing the Creative Arts Fund to provide financial support for the sector.
Reacting to the passage of the law on Thursday, The Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Barbara Oteng Gyasi said she was very happy the Creative Arts Industry Law has been passed and assuring creative arts stakeholders that it will soon be given the final assented by the President.
She further stated that the Creative Arts Agency which will be established on the premise of the law, will deal with pertinent problems facing the creative arts industry.
“We know that from next year, 2021, the Agency is going to be set up, we will have adequate funding from the budget, other sources,” she said.
“The establishment of the Creative Arts Fund is very significant because we know that that is one of the major challenges of the industry,” The Minister added.
The passage of the Creative Arts Bill into law was part of the promises made by the New Patriotic Party in their 2016 manifesto. It was reiterated in their 2020 manifesto.
